Kick-off meeting of the H2020 Tech4Win Project coordinated by IREC

The kick-off meeting of the Tech4Win project was held 14-15th January 2019 and led by the project coordinator Alejandro Pérez, head of the Solar energy materials and systems group at IREC.

Tech4Win proposes a very innovative transparent photovoltaic (PV) window concept that is based on the adoption of a tandem inspired structure combining an inorganic UV selective multifunctional coating with an organic IR selective PV device. This will allow fully exploiting the IR efficiency and transparency potential of organic based solutions together with the robustness and stability of inorganic thin film concepts, combining sustainable and industrial compatible technologies with demonstrated potential for cost reduction, and avoiding the use of critical raw materials to ensure sustainable mass deployment.

A well balanced multi-sectorial consortium comprises reference research centers, high-tech European companies and relevant stakeholders involved in the value chain: ADVENT, ARMOR, CEA, IK4-TEKNIKER, IMEC, IREC, KENOSISTEC, ONYX.

This project has received funding from the EU’s H2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 826002.

L’IREC participarà com un dels socis del projecte FOTOSENS

El projecte FOTOSENS té com a objectiu el desenvolupament i la demostració de dispositius fotovoltaics avançats per a l'alimentació de petits sistemes autònoms, basats en la implementació de processos de baix cost amb un alt grau de flexibilitat tecnològica i escalabilitat pel seu possible desplegament massiu. El projecte proposa el desenvolupament i demostració de processos basats en tècniques d'impressió i tractaments làser, fàcilment transferible a qualsevol tipus de substrat. Els resultats d'investigació de FOTOSENS podrien tenir un alt potencial per al desenvolupament i disseny de sistemes d'alimentació autònoms per a aplicacions IoT (Internet of Things). Per desenvolupar aquestes tècniques s'ha format un consorci entre una empresa espanyola (FAE S.A.U), juntament amb una universitat (Universitat de Saragossa) i un centre de recerca (Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya -IREC). El projecte té una durada de 3 anys i un finançament d'aproximadament 800K€.

FOTOSENS (Nous processos industrials sostenibles per a la producció de dispositius fotovoltaics competitius integrables en sensors i sistemes autònoms, RTC-2017-5857-3) es un projecte finançat pel Ministeri d'Economia i Competitivitat dins del Programa Reptes Col·laboració.

Kick-off meeting of the H2020 Harvestore Project coordinated by IREC

Today, December 18th, the Harvestore kick-off meeting is held at IREC led by the project coordinator Albert Tarancón, head of the Nanoionics and fuel cells group.

Harvestore is a new 5-year European project for the development of beyond-state-of-the-art technologies in the field of Internet of Things.

The “μ-harvestorers” developed in this project will be able to collect and store energy from heat and light at the same time, in order to serve a whole family of new-generation portable devices. They will be powerful, small, and environmental friendly.

Harvestore puts together some of the main actors of science and technology across Europe. Research, technology centres and advanced industries from 6 different countries have joined their efforts with the goal of opening-up a new technology paradigm in the world of IoT.

The Harvestore Project Consortium is made up by: AEInnova, CNRS, Coventry University, DTU, Horiba Scientific, IMB-CNM-CSIC, IMEC, Imperial College London, IREC, TU Wien, Worldsensing.

IREC contributes to the IFMIF LIPAc fusion materials test facility in Japan

From 17th October 2018 to 5th November 2018, members of the bFUS group of IREC, in collaboration with CIEMAT, have been contributing to the installation of the HEBT (High Energy Beam Transport line) and the Beam Dump of the Linear IFMIF Particle Accelerator (LIPAc) at Rokkasho, Aomori, a northern prefecture of Japan, in the framework of the IFMIF/EVEDA project.

The International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) aims to provide an accelerator-based, D-Li neutron source to produce high energy neutrons at sufficient intensity and irradiation volume for DEMO materials qualification. As part of the Broader Approach (BA) agreement between Japan and EURATOM, the goal of the IFMIF/EVEDA project is to work on the engineering design of IFMIF and to validate the main technological challenges which, among a wide diversity of hardware includes the LIPAc, a 125 mA continuous wave deuteron accelerator up to 9 MeV mainly designed and manufactured in Europe.

IREC has been involved since 2011, in collaboration with CIEMAT, in the design and the manufacturing follow-up of several components of LIPAc, mainly the Medium Energy Beam Transport Line (MEBT), the Diagnostics Plate, the High Energy Beam Transport Line (HEBT) and the Beam Dump.
