PostDoc position in the field of Energy System Integration in Buildings and Communities

The Thermal Energy and Building Performance group welcomes applications for the 2018 call Beatriu de Pinós. These grants, created to help incorporate research fellows in Catalan centers, is coordinated by the Catalan government and have a two year duration.

Requirements in order to obtain a Beatriu de Pinós grant are the following:

1. Have obtained a PhD between the 1st of January 2008 and 31st of December 2015.
2. Have, at the moment of entering the new position, a minimum of two years postdoctoral experience abroad.
3. Not have lived or worked in Spain during more of 12 months during the last three years prior to the date of the grant form submission.

More information

Post Doc position is offered to work on technical research projects in the field of energy systems integration in buildings and communities. The tasks to be carried out will be mainly focused to dynamic modelling and optimization of Low-energy / Net-Zero energy buildings / communities. Complementary research activities and experimental work in the field of HVAC systems for low-energy buildings may also be carried out.

The professional is expected to lead research projects (competitive and industrial) in the field of energy systems integration in buildings and communities. Publication of high-level articles required.

Contract and Salary:

The contract is conditional upon obtaining a Beatriu de Pinós grant. Salaries will be paid in accordance with Beatriu de Pinós call.

The Research Group

The research will be embedded in the Thermal Energy and Building Performance Group which main research subject is the Integrated and Systemic approach for Zero Energy Communities, Buildings and Industries. The group’s special focus is on the Mediterranean and other warm weather regions. The vision is to build an applied research group that contributes to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) through energy efficiency measures, production of clean energy, and integration of distributed renewable energy sources (RES).

The research group is also managing the Semi-Virtual Energy Integration Laboratory (SEILAB) which provides advanced expertise to assess the development and integration of renewable energy solutions and innovative thermal and electrical equipment that are designed to improve energy efficiency in buildings and energy systems. The laboratory is provided with cutting-edge technology comprising systems for energy generation, heat and cool storage and state-of-the-art facilities for testing HVAC equipment and the interaction of energy systems with the grid. The laboratory operation is based on a semi-virtual testing approach, which allows for real equipment to be operated as a function of the behaviour of a dynamic virtual model. The laboratory is pioneer in addressing the smart integration of electrical and thermal components and aims to become a leading experimental facility for improving the development of Net Zero Energy Buildings.
