Title: ESR Position (Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher) in Control of Smart Grids for the MSCA project INCITE (ESR4.3)

Job Summary
IREC, in Barcelona, Spain, has an opening ESR position to work in the MSCA-ITN project INCITE (www.incite-itn.eu).
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a master degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Systems and Control Engineering or other relevant disciplines. The successful candidate will work on advanced monitoring and controls of the electrical distribution grid.
You will join INCITE,  a MSCA European Training Network funded by the HORIZON 2020 that brings together experts on control and power systems, from academia and industry, with the aim of training 14 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) capable of providing innovative control solutions for the future electrical networks. INCITE will support an intensive training program allowing you to develop your career in a multi-sectorial environment and to obtain wide knowledge on the control of electrical networks.

Job description
The successful candidate will be working on an Individual Research Project (IRP4.3) at Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC, www.irec.cat/en/). The network will support training activities and periodical events, which will allow the ERS to develop their career in a multi-sectorial environment and to obtain a wide knowledge on the monitoring and control of the electrical distribution grid.
IRP4.3 aims to develop state estimation methods that are able to deal with different types of load and power generation profiles. In contrast to the transmission grid, the electrical distribution network typically consist s of a large number of buses and loads, while only a very limited number of measurements are available. Simple load allocation methods can lead to large inaccuracies, especially in the presence of electric vehicle charging and distributed energy generation. It should also investigate methods for improving the observability of the network by identifying the minimal number, type and optimum location of additional measurement elements.
The tasks include: optimal automatic meter/IED measurement and remote technical unit placement to enhance observability of the electrical network; dynamic state estimation to leverage sensor information for estimating the state of the network and state prediction; show cases to demonstrate the benefits of the previous monitoring tools; Fault-location and identification at distribution grid.
