First release of HI-LED project newsletter

HI-LED is an international project funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union in which the Lighting Group participates as coordinator. The project focuses on the development of low-cost and low-consumption light sources based on LED technology provided with capacity for spectral reproduction. These so-called light engines feature an advanced intelligent control system that adapts the light spectrum to the specifics of each application area. To demonstrate the potential of such systems, the project covers the realization of different proofs of concept in three well-defined application areas: Health and Welfare, in which the spectral variation will be used to induce changes in mood and  perception; Art and Museums, in which the spectrum will suit every type of art-work depending on the reflectance spectrum and the possible harm that the different spectral components can induce on the art-work; and finally, Horticulture, in which the spectrum is optimized to increase not only the size of the fruit but also the quality.
