GREA, a member of the XaRmae network coordinated by the IREC, organises Innostock 2012

IREC XARMAEThe GREA research group (University of Lleida), a member of XaRmae (Reference Network in Advanced Materials for Energy) of the Government of Catalonia with support from the IREC, is to coordinate the 12th International Conference on Energy Storage, Innostock 2012.

Innostock 2012, sponsored by the International Energy Agency in the framework of its ECES IA programme, is to be held in Lleida from 16th to 18th May 2012.

Prof. Dr. Joan Ramon Morante, the head of the IREC's Advanced Materials for Energy area and of the laboratory for Energy Storage and Harvesting, is a member of the conference's organising local committee.

On June 2 and 3 in Barcelona, international experts discuss the energy challenges of the future

The VI Barcelona Global Energy Challenges Conference is organized by the IREC, the Fundació b_TEC, and the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

MITei Deputy Director Robert Armstrong and representatives from key institutions leading the changes in technology and energy will take part in the event

Barcelona, May 20, 2011.- International experts will come together at the VI Barcelona Global Energy Challenges Conference on June 2nd and 3rd to analyze the energy challenges facing society. The conference is organized by the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC), the Fundació b_TEC, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), considered one of the world's best science and engineering universities.

In view of the current energy paradigm shift, representatives from the key institutions leading changes in technology and energy will answer questions like: What are the technological challenges facing top research centers and universities? How will the energy future unfold? What will the most successful options be? What areas will be the focus of energy innovation?

The IREC's Solar Energy Materials and Systems Group reports a pioneering international study on the development of Raman scattering based techniques

The IREC's Solar Energy Materials and Systems Group reports a pioneering international study on the development of Raman scattering based techniques for the systematic identification of secondary phases in next generation chalcogenide based absorbers

This study is being developed in collaboration with leading research groups from the University of Barcelona and the University of Luxembourg, and involves the detailed in-depth resolved analysis of Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) and Cu2ZnSnSe4 (CZTSe) thin films for photovoltaic (PV) devices. These compounds are attracting increasing interest as replacements of chalcopyrite absorbers that are based on Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)2 (CIS) alloys in thin film PV devices. In relation to CIS-based PV technologies, CZT(S,Se) materials are only formed by abundant and non-toxic materials, which makes them suitable for their mass deployment over the next few years as effective competition to traditional non-renewable energy sources.
