Hybrid Bus Prototype Created with the Participation of the IREC Joins TMB Fleet

IREC i TMBThe new vehicle is part of the Retrofit programme for the mass conversion of diesel buses to hybrid technology

November, 15th 2010 – A new prototype of hybrid (i.e. A hybrid system uses more than one source of energy. In the Retrofit project it combines an electric engine with the bus’s existing diesel engine.) bus has joined the Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) fleet. The new vehicle, created with the participation of the IREC’s Technological Research Area in Electricity and Power Electronics, will be one of five buses in the latest-generation new fleet. The prototype was commissioned in March and has been undergoing checks over the past few months. It forms part of the Retrofit programme for the mass conversion of diesel buses to hybrid technology.

ENDESA designs electric vehicle charging point in collaboration with IREC which will also provide energy to the network

Endesa ENDESA designs electric vehicle charging point in collaboration with IREC which will also provide energy to the network

Barcelona November, 5th
.- Endesa today officially presented the V2M project, aimed at designing a speedy two-way charging point that enables electric vehicles to pull in power from the network and also feed it directly into the electricity system.

V2M (Vehicle to Microgrid, an intelligent system for integrating electric vehicles in distributed generation electricity networks) is an initiative that also aims to assess the impact that the mass implementation of electric cars will have on electricity infrastructures so supply may be guaranteed. The project will involve studying new charging procedures to maximize the use of renewable energies.

The XARMAE and the IREC to organise the workshop “New Trends and Technologies for Photovoltaic Energy”

IREC XARMAEThe Xarmae (Reference Network in Advanced Materials for Energy) and the IREC (Catalonia Institute for Energy Research) are organising the workshop on “New Trends and Technologies for Photovoltaic Energy”.

This workshop is run by Dr Joan Ramón Morante, the head of the Department of Advanced Materials for Energy at the IREC. It will be attended by specialists in photovoltaic energy from leading international universities, research centres and the world of industry. They will be able to give an overview of the current status of this technology by focusing on the technologies that are currently available on the market and by discussing future trends. This will give research groups, universities and industry the opportunity to fully exploit future synergies.
