Laboratory Technician in Catalysis

The Energy Storage group of IREC, belonging to the Advanced Materials for Energy area, is looking for a Laboratory Technician in Catalysis, in the research line of:

Manufacture of catalysts for the production of synthetic natural gas of renewable origin

The candidate will carry out scientific and technical activity focused on the synthesis, characterization and evaluation new micro-sized porous materials for catalytic applications. An iterative process of catalyst support synthesis, impregnation and testing on the carbon dioxide hydrogenation reaction to synthetic natural gas will be performed. The candidate will be the responsible to launch new laboratory equipment and to understand the role of each catalyst component on the synthesis of porous supports; namely: active material, binder, promoter, precursor and ceramic support. The catalyst prototype will be shaped according to advanced reactor devices. The catalyst prototype will be implemented in a real demonstration plant for synthetic natural gas production of renewable origin. The candidate will be involved in the analysis of experimental data, result discussion and writing of technical reports.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a MSc degree in Renewable Energy, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Energy Engineering or Material Science. Background in heterogeneous catalysis and reactor engineering for synthetic fuel production is essential. Experience in catalyst synthesis, characterization techniques and catalytic evaluation will be positively valued. Previous participation in R&D projects and publication of research articles will also be considered. We are looking for an analytical, team-player and results-oriented candidate. Familiarity on chemical engineering simulation tools is desirable. The candidate must be fluent in English, knowledge of Catalan and Spanish is a plus.
