Dr. Prof. Charles Hunt presents the IREC Lighting Center in Barcelona

Dr. Prof. Charles Hunt has been appointed director of the IREC Lighting Center. The director of the new laboratory was in Barcelona, where a small event was held to present the centre. The event was attended by businesses interested in the efficient lighting industry.

IREC’s commitment to research in the area of energy efficiency is clear not only because it has developed a line of research in this area but also because it has created a specific center dedicated to efficient lighting. The creation of the IREC Lighting Center was possible thanks to a joint effort with the University of California, Davis, USA, California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC). IREC is currently an affiliate of CLTC.

The California Lighting Technology Center began operating in 2003, after an agreement was reached between the California Energy Commission, the United States Department of Energy and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association to advance energy efficient lighting and daylighting technologies. Since its creation, the CLTC has worked to stimulate, facilitate and accelerate the development and commercialization of energy efficient lighting and daylighting technologies.

The IREC Lighting Center will be a leading laboratory in lighting that will make it possible to conduct research projects for developing lighting system technology and applications in four primary areas of research: luminescent materials for energy efficiency in lighting, natural lighting, control systems for lighting applications and the social perception of energy efficient lighting.

Dr. Prof. Charles Hunt is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Materials Science at the University of California, Davis. He is also a professor at the California Lighting Technology Center In addition, he also works as a consultant at the Engineering Research Division of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, he is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, he is the author and coauthor of over 25 referenced publications and eight books and he is the owner of 30 patents.
