Biography
Charles E. Hunt received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University (B.S.E.E. and M.S.E.E. degree from the University of Utah.) From 1979 to 1983 he served as Staff Engineer to the VLSI Design Research Group at the Computer Science Department of the University of Utah,. Since 1986, he has been at the University of California at Davis, where is presently Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with appointments in the Design Program and in the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC). He is a Staff Consultant for the Engineering Research Division of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He also has held the appointment of Visiting Professor of Electronics in the Faculty of Physics of the University of Barcelona. Professor Hunt teaches semiconductor device physics, IC fabrication technology, and nanofabrication. His research centers on electronic and luminescent materials, electron devices, and fabrication technologies for nanostructures. His major research emphasis is in the areas of cathodoluminescent phosphor technology, energy-efficient lighting devices, low-cost photovoltaic cells, field-emission vacuum microelectronics, semiconductor wafer bonding, CVD epitaxy of column-IV semiconductors, and silicon on insulator (SOI) materials and devices. Professor Hunt is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and is Author or Co-Author of over one hundred and twenty five refereed publications, eight books, and holds thirteen patents. From 1997-2004 he served as Editor of the journal, Solid-State Electronics. Since 2006, he is a Member of the Board of Vu1 Corporation, a publicly-traded company which manufactures energy-efficient lighting devices. During 2007-2008, he also served as Chief Technical Officer of Vu1 Corporation. He is a Co-Founder of Advanced Luminescence LLC., a startup company in field-emission lighting devices. He has Chaired the International Vacuum Microelectronics Conference (2001), and is Co-Organizer of the Electrochemical Society Symposia on Luminescent Materials. He is a Member of the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) and the California Solar Energy Consortium (CSEC), both sited at UC Davis.
