Biography
Dr. Mariano Perálvarez obtained his degree in Physics by the University of La Laguna (Canary Islands) in 2003. In the same year, he was hired as a research assistant in the Department of Electronics at the University of Barcelona (UB). One year later, he obtained a four year FPI national grant for developing his PhD in the area of Si-based Optoelectronics. In that period, he was involved in different national and European projects devoted to the fabrication, implementation and characterization of nanostructured-Si based light emitting devices. In the meantime, in 2007, he obtained a Master degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology by in the same university. Finally in 2009, with a work entitled “Si-nanocrystal MOS-LEDs: Strategies to improve efficiency and device lifetime”, he obtained his PhD degree (Cum Laude).
In December ’09, Dr. Perálvarez was hired by the Photovoltaics branch of Pirelli S.p.A. for collaborating in the fabrication and development of high efficiency Concentration Photovoltaic (CPV) modules. He was involved in the design of new optical solutions for photovoltaic concentrators and was in charge of developing the optoelectronic validation of CPV modules.
Over his career, he has published a significant number of articles in different SCI journals. In the same way, he has contributed to numerous national and international conferences and has collaborated in several activities of technological transfer.
Since May ’11, he is working at IREC as a researcher in the Lightning Group. He is involved in the research and application of novel concepts for solid-state lightning with a strong focus in energy efficiency.
