Biography

Eduard Cubí (Vic, 1981) earned a degree in Industrial Engineering at the Universitat de Girona (Spain) before enrolling as an MSc student in Mechanical Engineering with the specialization in Energy and Environmental Systems (EES) at the University of Calgary (Canada). After earning his MSc degree (he was the first graduate student to receive the EES specialization), Eduard stayed in Calgary working as a research associate for Dr. David Keith, one of his former supervisors, and director of the Energy and Environmental Systems Group. Eduard Cubí currently works at the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (in Barcelona, Spain) as a researcher in the Thermal Energy and Building Performance Group, under the supervision of Dr. Jaume Salom.
 
Eduard’s MSc thesis was on the evaluation of the actual performance of advanced systems for “green” buildings. Specifically, he analysed the performance of an underfloor air distribution system in terms of energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and ventilation effectiveness.
 
In addition to his thesis work, Eduard’s research at the University of Calgary was focused on building energy performance, energy systems analysis, and the evaluation of policies and standards to promote energy efficiency in the built environment (e.g., LEED).
 
Within the research group of the Building Sciences and Technology Laboratory, and supervised by Dr. Jim Love, Eduard worked on simulation, monitoring and analysis of the energy use in buildings. While in Calgary, Eduard was also a teaching assistant of courses in energy systems analysis for engineering students.
 
Eduard’s current research at IREC is focussed on energy efficient building technologies, low and net zero energy buildings, measurement and verification systems for buildings, green building codes and standards, and thermal processes with renewable energies.
