Biography

Carles Torras obtained his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering on July 2001 at “Universitat Rovira i Virgili” (URV, Tarragona, Spain). During the studies, he started his research activity through a research laboratory class, a 1-year Spanish Ministry collaboration scholarship at the Chemical Engineering Department (URV, Tarragona, Spain) and a stage at AIICA (Technology Centre related to leather industries, Igualada, Spain). In 2003 he obtained the master degree in the program “Chemical and Process Engineering” and on October 2005, the PhD (both at URV) with European Mention Award and wining the Extraordinary Doctoral Prize. During the PhD, he carried-out two research stays at Helsinki University of Technology (Finland) and at Compiegne University of Technology (France). Additionally, in 2004 he also completed the studies of Technical Industrial Engineering (URV).

After the PhD, we got a post-doctoral contract in the IMPULSE project for 3 years (6th EU framework program) and afterwards, he won a lecturer position at “Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya” and he also won a “Juan de la Cierva” contract from the Spanish Ministry, being classified with the 1st position in Spain and in the area of “Chemical Technology”. In 2009 and to the actuality, he enrolled “Catalonia Institute for Energy Research” IREC

During the last 9 years, he also participated in teaching in several official studies at URV and supervised several research works.

Carles Torras has published 21 research articles in indexed and peer-reviewed international journals and few patents; he has participated in 7 research projects and has numerous contributions in international conferences. He owns the official accreditation for collaborating lecturer and tenure-track lecturer.
