Biography

Ester Clavero is technician researcher at the Area of Bioenergy and Biofuels of the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC). Her activities are isolation, physiological characterization and mass culture of microalgae for biodiesel production research. Her area of expertise also covers taxonomy and phylogenetics of microalgae.
 
She received her Diploma (M.Sc.) and Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Biology, in 1992 and 2004, respectively, both from the University of Barcelona. From 2004-2006 she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Lab. Protistology & Aquatic Ecology, Dept. Biology, University of Gent. Since 2007 she has been working in biodiesel research at the Chemical Engineering Dept. of Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Institute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology (IRTA) and IREC, consecutively.
 
Her PhD thesis “Diatomees d’ambients hipersalins costaners. Taxonomia, distribució i empremtes en el registre sedimentari” won the Pius Font i Quer de Botànica Award 2005 of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans.
