Biography
Jorgelina Pasqualino is a Chemical Engineer with a degree from the National University of Mar del Plata (Argentina). In September 2006, she defended her doctoral thesis at the Rovira i Virgili University (URV, Tarragona) in the Department of Chemical Engineering as part of the Plant Biopolymer research group. Her doctoral thesis consisted of a study of the process of obtaining biodiesel from wild cardoon oil (Cynara cardunculus) including the optimization of the pre-treatment and transesterification reaction stages, a study of reaction kinetics and the main properties of the biodiesel obtained. This work also included aspects such as using biodiesel as a biosolvent and a fossil fuel degradation accelerator and a study of the properties of biodiesel and diesel oil blends based on current standards (UNE-EN-ISO-14214 for biodiesel, and UNE-EN-ISO-590 for diesel oil and blends of the two).
From November 2006 to April 2010, she worked as a researcher with the URV Environmental Management and Analysis research group, participating in the development of several projects related to life cycle analysis as applied to such varied areas as the water cycle (purification, desalination, distribution, collection and waste water treatment, etc.), the construction sector (materials selection and waste management), electricity generation (wind farms, solar farms and natural gas combined cycle power stations), urban waste management (in particular, food packaging, sewage sludge management and the organic fraction of urban waste), food production (in particular, agricultural products).
She is currently Head of Laboratory of the Bioenergy and Biofuels Area of IREC.
