Biography

Oriol Gomis-Bellmunt was born in Alió (Tarragona) in 1976. He received the degree in industrial engineering from the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona (ETSEIB), Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2001 and the PhD in electrical engineering from the UPC in 2007 (with European Mention and Extraordinary Doctoral Prize). In 1999 he joined Engitrol S.L. where he worked as project engineer in the automation and control industry. In 2003 he developed part of his PhD thesis in the DLR (German Aerospace center) in Braunschweig (Germany). Since 2004 he is with the Electrical Engineering Department of the UPC where he is lecturer and participates in the CITCEA-UPC research group. Since 2009 he is also with the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC). His research interests include the fields linked with smart actuators, electrical machines, microgrids, HVDC, wind power, power electronics and renewable energy integration in power systems. He has participated in several technology transfer projects with different companies and public research projects mainly in technologies related to wind power, mechatronics and renewable generation integration in power systems. He has authored one book and more than twenty journal publications and supervised several degree, master and PhD thesis.
