Biography
Albert Tarancón (Barcelona, 1979) is a Senior Scientist and Head of the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells Group of the Advanced Materials for Energy Department at the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC). Albert received his M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Barcelona (2001) and M.Eng. in Materials Science from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2007). From 2002 to 2007 he was involved in his Ph.D. in Physics on the ”Strategies for Lowering the Temperature in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells” at the University of Barcelona. After two postdoctoral stays at the University of La Laguna (2007) and the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona- CSIC (2008-2009), Albert Tarancón joined the Catalonia Institute of Research in Energy (IREC) at the end of 2009 as a senior researcher (Ramón y Cajal felowship). His research interest is primarily concerned with materials for alternative energy technologies and their applicability in powering portable devices. He is deeply involved in the electrical characterization of materials for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells and thermoelectric generators. A particular field of interest is the integration of nanoionics concepts in micro Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. He has collaborated among others with Prof. Truls Norby (University of Oslo, Norway), Prof. J.A.Kilner and S. J. Skinner (Imperial College London, UK) and Prof. S. Haile (Caltech, CA, USA).
