Biography

Dr. Cristina Flox was born in Ciudad Real, Spain, in 1979. She obtained her B.S. degree in Chemistry in 2002 from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Ciudad Real, Spain) and her Ph.D. degree in Chemistry with European’s Mention in 2008 from the Universitat de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain). Her thesis, carried out in the Laboratori d’Electroquímica dels Materials i del Medi Ambient within the team of Professor Enric Brillas, was devoted to the development of electrochemical advanced oxidation processes for the treatment of several persistent organic pollutants in waters, focusing on direct anodic oxidation with BDD anodes, electro-Fenton, photoelectro-Fenton, and solar photoelectro-Fenton processes. She has undertaken predoctoral stays at the Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Sfax (Tunisia) and the Université Paul Sabatier (Toulouse, France). She has also carried out an industry postdoctoral experience in the research laboratories of Henkel Ibérica and AIICA-Technological Centre (Asociación de Investigación de Industrias del Curtido y Anexas) in Spain, holding a Torres Quevedo Grant awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN). Her most recent investigation has focused on advanced bioremediation technologies and electrodialysis processes. On June 17th, 2010, she has begun to work in the Catalonia Institute for Research in Energy, IREC, in Barcelona. Her research interests include environmental electrochemistry, electrochemical engineering, and the study of novel advanced electrode materials for different applications, having published several research papers and presented oral communications in international meetings.
