Biography
Gottfried holds a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Aeronautical and Space Technology Institute in Stuttgart, Germany, and has specialised in the design of aircraft.
He started his career with Schempp-Hirth Flugzeugbau GmbH Kirchheim/T, Germany (a world leading sailplane manufacturer) where he worked for 9 years as a Design engineer (as junior and later senior engineer) of sailplanes made from high-technology epoxy composites with glass, carbon and aramid fibres. He went on to join Ecotècnia, a manufacturer of wind turbines which was later purchased by Alstom, a multinational company, where he has held various management positions in the field of aerodynamic engineering. After initially working as “Head of the aerodynamic department”, he was appointed “Head of Wind Turbine Technical Office” and “Head of Product Engineering”. Gottfried Eberhard Schuon possesses a deep understanding, knowledge and practical experience of low speed airfoil aerodynamics, (from wind tunnel tests over sailplane testing and WT design and tests), as well as aerodynamics and aeroelastics of wind turbines, testing and application of aerodynamic devices on sailplanes and wind turbine rotor blades, aeroelastic design and optimization of wind turbines. Overall knowledge of wind turbines. He also has in-depth knowledge of wind turbine regulations, which led him to be a member of the IEC expert group for 3 years. Gottfried Eberhard Schuon is a regular contributor to international conferences and congresses in the wind energy industry.
