IREC contributes to the IFMIF LIPAc fusion materials test facility in Japan

From 17th October 2018 to 5th November 2018, members of the bFUS group of IREC, in collaboration with CIEMAT, have been contributing to the installation of the HEBT (High Energy Beam Transport line) and the Beam Dump of the Linear IFMIF Particle Accelerator (LIPAc) at Rokkasho, Aomori, a northern prefecture of Japan, in the framework of the IFMIF/EVEDA project.

The International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) aims to provide an accelerator-based, D-Li neutron source to produce high energy neutrons at sufficient intensity and irradiation volume for DEMO materials qualification. As part of the Broader Approach (BA) agreement between Japan and EURATOM, the goal of the IFMIF/EVEDA project is to work on the engineering design of IFMIF and to validate the main technological challenges which, among a wide diversity of hardware includes the LIPAc, a 125 mA continuous wave deuteron accelerator up to 9 MeV mainly designed and manufactured in Europe.

IREC has been involved since 2011, in collaboration with CIEMAT, in the design and the manufacturing follow-up of several components of LIPAc, mainly the Medium Energy Beam Transport Line (MEBT), the Diagnostics Plate, the High Energy Beam Transport Line (HEBT) and the Beam Dump.

El projecte Cell3ditor guanya el premi a la innovació dels FCH JU AWARDS 2018

El projecte Cell3ditor, coordinat pel grup de Nanoiònica i Piles de Combustible de l'IREC, liderat pel Dr. Prof. ICREA Albert Tarancón, guanya el premi a la innovació dels FCH JU AWARDS 2018.

Aquest projecte consisteix en el desenvolupament d'un procés d’impressió 3D que permet fabricar piles de combustible d'òxid sòlid monolítiques i amb diverses funcionalitats integrades. Les piles de combustible d’òxid sòlid permeten generar electricitat amb altíssima eficiència (<70%) i sense emissions de carboni. El nou procés dóna a aquesta tecnologia la màxima flexibilitat, reduint substancialment l’ús de materials crítics i reduint el temps de comercialització.

El projecte Cell3Ditor està coordinat per la Fundació Institut de Recerca d'Energia de Catalunya (IREC) i finançat per la Comissió Europea ((Joint Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Company). El Consorci està format per empreses i instituts de recerca de 6 països europeus: 3DCERAM (FR), Promethean Particles (UK), FAE (ES), SAAN Energy (SE), HyGEAR (NL), DTU (DK), ULL (ES).

IREC will be present at Smart City Expo World Congress

IREC will be present at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC 2018), participating in the Smart Cities event, a meeting point for intelligent city sectors and an innovative platform for urban action worldwide.

IREC will be at SCEWC 2018 from November, 13th to 15th at Stand 19 of Generalitat de Catalunya, Hall 2 D413, presenting some of our products: Low energy districts modelling tool, Energy Aggregator, iEnergy Box, HVAC economizer and the RESCCUE tool for resilient cities.

Likewise, will actively participate co-organizing the Workshop on “Low energy districts in the GrowSmarter project” in SCEWC, in collaboration with other partners of H2020 GrowSmarter project. We will be glad to welcome you and meet you at this open workshop! SmartCity Expo in Barcelona at the Ajuntament de Barcelona: Room 1.1 CC1 on November 15th from 9h00 to 11h00.
