Recently, IREC took a significant step in its commitment to enhancing academic research evaluation processes. The Institute signed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), an initiative promoted by the European Commission.
With this decision, IREC commits to applying the principles set by DORA and CoARA in its research and hiring evaluation processes. This represents an acknowledgment of the need for new evaluation models that emphasize the quality and real impact of research, beyond the prominence of the journals in which articles are published.
The San Francisco Declaration, DORA, promotes a fairer assessment of research outcomes. Instead of focusing solely on journal impact factors, DORA advocates evaluating article quality as well as social and scientific impact from a broader perspective. The declaration consists of 18 points calling for a critical review of traditional evaluation methods across all disciplines (DORA declaration).
CoARA, on the other hand, provides a common direction for the reform of research evaluation, respecting organizational autonomy and promoting practices that maximize the quality and impact of scientific results. The 10 commitments set by CoARA, guide institutions towards fairer and more effective evaluations (full CoARA agreement).
IREC continues to advance towards a more inclusive and equitable evaluation model that better reflects the complexity and richness of modern research. This approach, focused on quality and impact, ensures that its contributions to the fields of energy and sustainability are recognized and valued appropriately.
