Group Leader of Solar Energy Materials and Systems
Alejandro Pérez-Rodríguez is Full Professor of Electronics at the University of Barcelona. He joined IREC in October 2009 as Head of the Solar Energy Materials and Systems Group. His research activities are centred on the development and advanced characterisation of thin film chalcogenide devices and processes for next generation cost-effective sustainable photovoltaic technologies, including chalcopyrite (CIGS) technologies that have already started their transition to industrial production, as well as emerging technologies based on kesterites that avoid the use of critical raw materials and highly toxic compounds.
Prof. Pérez-Rodríguez has coordinated 28 R+D projects in different National Programs and 17 international projects funded by the European Commission and from the International SOLAR-ERA.NET program. He is co-author of 385 scientific publications with an h index 44 (October 2019). He has co-authored 5 patents, one exploited by the company Smalle New Technologies S.L. (spin-off of the Univ. of Barcelona) and is member of the Scientific Committee of Smalle New Technologies S.L.
