The first edition of the Metropolitan Business Innovation Awards 2022 was held on June the 28th, 2022, in Cornellà. The event distinguished the most innovative and technological business initiatives in the field of Industry 4.0, in the area of Commerce and Tourism and the best leadership project for the Barcelona metropolitan area. The organizers are the Centre d’Empreses Procornellà and Area Metropolitana de Barcelona, which is a co-organizer and the economic supporter of the rewards. The objective of these Awards is to promote the creation and growth of companies to create employment, promote innovation and talent and increase the competitiveness of companies in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
Among more than a 100 companies, the spin-off of IREC Bamboo Energy, created by Cristina Corchero, head of the Energy System Analytics research group of IREC and Professor Serra Hunter at UPC, has been awarded as the best entrepreneurship initiative led by a woman and recognised as one of the three best business initiatives in the Barcelona metropolitan area. The prize is worth €6,000.
Bamboo Energy develops a software platform based on artificial intelligence and mathematical optimization, resulting from sets of research to the IREC. The software platform based on artificial intelligence allows the reduction of electricity costs in favour of a more sustainable consumption. This software platform makes it easier for electricity marketers to provide a new service to end users, offering greater flexibility in electricity consumption in a way that reduces costs and allows better penetration of renewable energies.
