The Catalan electricity grid operator Electra Caldense Distribució and the retailer Electra Caldense Energía, together with Energy Web and Bamboo Energy SL (a recent IREC spin-off that empowers energy flexibility), have announced the launch of ElectraFlex. This is a joint initiative focused on the deployment of a digital platform that will allow Electra Caldense to use the flexible capacity of assets connected to the electrical grid.
In recent years, Electra Caldense has undertaken a series of innovation projects, such as participation in the RIS3CAT Energy Community and the NAenCAT project (see the related recent news in the joint press release with IREC here). The new ElectraFlex pilot project will use open source digital technologies. It is the world’s first decentralized flexible power distribution platform that is tailored to the specific needs of a distribution system operator (DSO).
The strategic collaboration will use the Bamboo Energy software platform, which offers flexibility services to the distribution network of Electra Caldense, including battery for energy storage, electric vehicles, photovoltaic solar panels and industrial companies.
The ElectraFlex pilot project started in January 2021 and is expected to end in late July 2021.
