Barcelona joins PRIMA project to create a technology and innovation platform for energy transition

The government commission has approved the collaboration agreement between the Barcelona City Council and IREC, this agreement provide a grant of € 300.000 for the development of PRIMA project for energy transition, promoted by Generalitat de Catalunya, and aligns with 2030 Agenda compliance, it will allow to promote the development of key technologies for energy transition, whilst reinforcing an economic sector linked to renewable energy with the installation of industrial testing and technology validation facility, which will improve the competitiveness of the energy sector industry. This funding adds to the capital contribution of € 3M committed by Generalitat de Catalunya through the Institut Català d’Energia (ICAEN) to IREC, to promote this project in Catalunya.

With this contribution, Barcelona City Council guarantees the green energy innovation laboratory, to promote the economic activity, will be located in the city, in an industrial building located around the energy hub which is being developed in the Besòs area. The design and implementation of this platform for industrial test and tech validation, products and services for energy storage and renewable energies in a real environment, will take done during 2021 and the final go live date is scheduled for 2022.

PRIMA – Integration platform for renewable energy and storage is an energy transition project focused on renewable energy integration for buildings and energy grids, and smart energy management, including its storage, and the electric vehicle and hydrogen.
