OPTIWIND is an INNOTEC project funded by ACCIÓ that wants to take a step further in the modelling of electrical systems for offshore floating wind farms. Thanks to the development of optimization modules, OPTIWIND will be able to generate a reduction of both wind energy costs and of the existent uncertainties about the technology that limit its implementation and financing.
OPTIWIND is led by YouWind, a software developing company devoted to offshore wind energy disruptive software solutions and has the participation of IREC and CITCEA-UPC as TECNIO technology providers. The main goal of the project is the modelling of innovative models in the field of electrical systems and electric transmission, as well as of floating technology modules, by means of their integration within YouWind’s tool, resulting in a disruptive improvement in the way offshore wind farms are developed in the conception and pre-design phases.
In the OPTIWIND project, that started this September, IREC’s contribution focuses on the optimization of the electrical connexion between turbines and its knowledge of floating technologies. These activities will be carried out by the Power Systems group, specialized in future energy systems, including modelling, control and digitalization and having ample expertise in offshore wind energy, and led by Dr José Luis Domínguez-García.
