The European Research Night is a public event dedicated to the dissemination of science that is held every year in more than 300 cities in 30 European countries at the same time. Its aim is to bring research and the researchers closer to the public of all ages and to make research and innovation known in a smooth and fun way.

This year, the European Research Night dissemination event takes place the 30th of September in Catalonia (Nit de la Recerca). More than 200 scientific entities from all provinces organize talks, workshops, games, experiments, and many other activities for all audiences.

In this 2022 edition, IREC was involved in two nodes, Barcelona and Tarragona.

At the Corsini Square (Tarragona), a workshop entitled “Green Hydrogen, energy for the present and the futuretook place from 5 to 9 pm. The workshop showed how to generate and use hydrogen from renewable sources– from the scientific basis of this energy, experimenting with a cell with hydrogen fuel and finally getting behind the wheel of the car of the future: fast, agile, quiet and clean. This activity was driven by researchers from IREC, URV, ICIQ and EURECAT. Martí Biset and Sebastián Murcia from Energy Storage, Harvesting and Catalysis were the researchers from IREC involved.

In CosmoCaixa (Barcelona), the “Feria de la Investigación” organized by ESCIENCIA was held from 5 to 9 pm. IREC joined this event by showcasing three different projects at IREC:

  • Harvestore, a FET-open research project devoted to Powering the Internet of Things and presented by Federico Baiutti and Francesco Chiabrera from the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells group
  • Epistore, a FET-open research project dedicated to nanoscale breakthroughs and never explored materials will be combined giving rise to radically new ultracompact and fast response energy storage solutions, by Kreka Kosova and Natasha Di Benedetto from the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells group
  • Gara and the energy that surrounds us 3.0“, an exhibition projectthat aims to improve the scientific-technical education of society on energy and the transition towards a more sustainable model for our planet
