The Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) is participating in the 16th Festa de la Ciència, a vibrant celebration of knowledge, discovery, and innovation. This year’s event will be held in our district, near our Research Centre in Barcelona, providing a unique opportunity for local citizens to engage with the scientific community. This participation aligns with our strategic initiative to promote scientific culture and knowledge in the city.

For the 16th time, Barcelona is hosting a grand meeting to bring scientific knowledge closer to society. The Festa de la Ciència, an essential event open to everyone, will take place on the 10th and 11th of June on the Rambla de Prim. This event offers the opportunity to explore essential topics of our present and future and enjoy more than 170 activities organised by various research centres, including IREC, universities, associations, professionals, and other entities. Over two days, the stretch of Rambla de Prim from Llull Street to Llevant Square, and the Barcelona Natural Science Museum, will host the twenty-four spaces that make up this edition of the Festa de la Ciència.

The researchers from the Nanoionic and Fuels Cells group have been working enthusiastically to prepare a series of activities designed to inspire, educate, entertain, and share their research with the public. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for their dedication and hard work. Their efforts are a testament to IREC’s commitment to fostering a culture of scientific curiosity and understanding.

One of the highlights of our programme is the “Dones amb molta Energía” (Women with a Lot of Energy) activity. This event, led by our esteemed researchers Carolina Duque Sierra, Marlene Anzengruber, Daiana Marcia Ferreira, Natasha Di Benedetto and Lucile Bernadet . Will take place on Saturday, 10th June, from 15:45h. to 16:25h. at the 03 – Ciència Bàsica (Basic Science). More details can be found here.

On Sunday, 11th June, we invite you to join us for a lively debate on the future of mobility. Our expert researchers Juan Carlos Gonzalez, Francesco Chiabrera and Lucile Bernadet will discuss the merits of hydrogen versus lithium as a power source. The debate will take place from 15:50h. to 16:35h. at the 01 – Escenari Copèrnic (Copernicus stage). More information can be found here.

We are also delighted to present the activity led by the researchers: Kosova Kreka, Federico Baiutti and Paul Nizet Ruiz. This activity, centred around the Epistore and Harvestore European projects, will explore the city of the future through nanomaterials and sustainable energy. The activity will take place on Sunday, 11th June, from 17:10h. to 18:05h. at 07 – L’entorn en equilibri (Balanced environment). More details can be found here.

We encourage everyone to take part in these activities and immerse themselves in the fascinating world of science. Whether you’re a seasoned scientist, a curious student, or a citizen interested in learning more about the world around you, there’s something for everyone. This weekend offers plenty of interesting activities.

Join us in celebrating the wonders of science and the incredible work of our researchers. Together, we can make science accessible, enjoyable, and inspiring for all. We look forward to seeing you there!
