IREC leads an ITP on Hydrogen as an energy vector

  • Energy storage

The Energy Efficiency Spanish Technological Platform (PTE-ee) proposes an ITP (in Spanish Iniciativas Tecnológicas Prioritarias) on hydrogen to improve energy efficiency in a decarbonized industry in the framework of the Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2017-2020.

This initiative focuses on industrial decarbonisation, with special interest for industries that intensively consume energy or use hydrogen directly as a raw material, since the incorporation of green hydrogen by these sectors will imply a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

This ITP is coordinated by Marc Torrell from the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells groups at IREC, and co-authored by researchers and members from IMNA, ARIEMA and PTE-ee.

ITPs are instruments that detect important technological innovations which allow to develop the industrial network and add high intrinsic value, such as employment, sustainability, technological leadership. The initiative is aimed at both regional and national level, in a short-term time frame (few years).
