New collaboration agreement between IREC and the IAQ Cluster

  • Energy and environment

Last month, IREC signed a collaboration agreement with the IAQ cluster. The IAQ Cluster is a non-profit organization that gathers different stakeholders whose main objectives are to improve the indoor air quality (IAQ) in buildings and infrastructures.

It is a great opportunity for IREC to collaborate with of this cluster, as it brings together all the actors of this sector: manufacturers and producers of HVAC equipment, professional unions, research centers, universities and other non-profit organizations. There is potential for interesting collaborations between these entities, especially at these times of pandemic where the indoor air quality has become such a crucial element in the built environment.

IREC, and specially the Thermal Energy and Building Performance research group evaluates the energy efficiency strategies from the user’s perspectives, analyzing how they should guarantee environmental comfort and indoor air quality to the occupants. This kind of studies are implemented in the design phase through building simulation tools, but also in the operational phase of the building implementing post occupancy evaluations, including surveys and monitoring campaigns. Some relevant projects and collaborations on that topic are implemented in syn.ikia, EmpowerMed or with Consell Català de l’Esport.

The IAQ cluster is structured around three major axes: impulse synergies to develop innovative IAQ solutions, guarantee and quantify a good indoor air quality, and improve the public awareness about IAQ issues.
