Shaping catalyst supports for the industrial production of renewable fuels

  • Energy storage

The Producte project (Prod-Cat) was originally conceived to address the gap between research catalysts, usually powders developed at a laboratory scale, and industrially relevant catalytic materials, which have to meet certain characteristics to be functional in large scale operations.

In the frame of the project, a family of structured supports were fabricated, using metal oxide mesoporous powders. As a result, catalyst supports have been obtained and successfully evaluated in the catalytic methanation of carbon dioxide, a reaction of interest for the production of synthetic natural gas. These results open new avenues towards the preparation of catalytic materials for the production of renewable fuels.

This project is carried out within the Energy Storage, Harvesting and Catalysis group at IREC.
