Strengthening Open Science at IREC

IREC will improve its research data management systems and continue to implement its Open Science strategy thanks to the María de Guzmán funding from FECYT.

IREC has been awarded a María de Guzmán project to promote excellent scientific research. This funding aims to provide universities and research centres with resources to effectively manage scientific information.

In the last years, IREC has started the deployment of an Open Science strategy, including the implementation of new tools and methodologies, in order to facilitate society’s access to its scientific production and comply with the mandates of the funding bodies. This new project will allow the specialization of the research support structure at IREC with the creation and consolidation of the research data manager position as the reference person for all matters related to open science and research data management. The project activities will also allow the interconnection of the different digital structures required to ensure optimal management of research data, scientific production, and curricular information, facilitating a higher quality and more transparent results dissemination.

This initiative, starting in January 2024 and running for 2 years, aims at the improvement of the technological capacity, quality, and interoperability of the management systems of IREC’s digital structures devoted to dissemination, storage, preservation, and management of research results and necessary for open science purposes. The project, with a total funding of circa 100k€, is led by Marta Fonrodona, Corporate Development and Technology Transfer Director, and has Kàtia Martínez as Research Data Manager.

“This project will be a key element in IREC’s Open Science strategy implementation, reinforcing our commitment to quality and transparency in scientific production and research data timely dissemination and optimal management”, states Marta Fonrodona.
