The SEHTOP project , coordinated between IREC, Universitat Politècnica de Valencia, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid and the Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica of CSIC, has designed and developed novel materials that are able to take advantage of a wider interval of the solar spectrum by combining two electronic excitations produced by two photons of relatively low energy.
The project results, which have been reported in several publications, have demonstrated the high potential of this strategy.
Nevertheless, additional work is needed to probe the efficiency of the two-photon process and to develop a system able to effectively use this strategy in the fields of photovoltaic, photoelectrochemistry and photocatalysis.
