On January the 20th 2024, the first session of the 3rd edition of the “Crazy for Energy” course took place. The course is organized by ICAEN in collaboration with IREC and is aimed at students in the 1st and 2nd year of high school with a special interest in science and topics related to the energy world. The day before, the two coordinating entities attended the inauguration of the “Crazy for Science” program, promoted by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, within which the “Crazy for Energy” course is framed.
This year, 10 girls and 12 boys from different parts of the country will participate in 15 sessions – from now until next May – in which researchers from IREC will introduce the main concepts, technologies, and knowledge to understand energy and advance in the transition towards a new, cleaner, fairer, sustainable, and participatory energy model. The course connects many of the subjects these students typically study at school, such as physics or mathematics, with a focus on energy, and introduces them for the first time to the world of research, thus contributing to fostering scientific vocations.
The “Crazy for Energy” curriculum is organized considering the energy journey, from how it is produced, stored, until it is distributed and consumed. In this way, aspects such as energy sources, their utilization and storage are addressed, linking them to specific applications such as electric mobility, energy efficiency, or sustainable construction.
