Consolidating an App to be used as an energy calculator at home

  • Smart energy management

The UpEnergy project, which concluded at the end of 2023, had the aim to work towards building a Mobile App that works as an energy calculator for all home energy consumptions. The engine can sort all the energetic information, and can easily display daily, weekly, monthly and yearly consumptions per source. The information is extracted from bills and meter information (both electrical and thermal sources) and the specific information about the end-user including, under agreement and not mandatory, the access to electricity hourly data (via DataDis service). In this direction, the application can make group types of users into clusters, and provide tailor-made suggestions.

Beyond the functionalities developed within the framework of the Singulars program, the programming behind the application is still ongoing, and will be consolidated thanks to the BruixIT follow-up project. The tool, once it is established, will promote efficient use of home energy, supported by companies and/or local administration, and truly facilitate networking, and mutual learning. The network of sewing women and the collective in energy poverty of the energy Community of Bon Pastor, belonging to energy communities within the Osona region (Catalonia), will be the beta-testers of the App.

The consortium was formed by 7 partners including Cíclica (leader), IREC, Consorci Vall del Ges, Orís i Bisaura, Consell Comarcal d’Osona, Cospes, Estabanell Impulsa and Dies d’agost.

Jordi Pascual, Joaquim Romaní and Camille Burke, from the Thermal Energy and Building Performance group at IREC, are the team which was in charge of the background development of the application.
