Innovative and flexible energy harvesting and storage solutions are essential to fulfill the requirements of autonomous Wireless Sensor Nodes (WSNs) for the future Internet of Things (IoT), which is considered one of the five technologies that will change the world by connecting trillions of devices by 2030. The 3DSTORE project aims to power IoT nodes for critical infrastructure monitoring using next generation rechargeable All-Solid-State Batteries (ASSBs) digitally manufactured by 3D printing. 3DSTORE ASSBs are intrinsically safe due to the use of solid state electrolytes, which replace highly flammable and toxic liquid electrolytes, while substantially minimize the content of some critical materials (Co and Li). Moreover, 3DSTORE monolithic battery concept will provide high energy densities very well aligned with performance objectives of the EU Strategic Research Agenda on Batteries and the Battery 2030+ roadmap.
