Join at IREC

We are a vibrant, international community of over 100 researchers, technology transfer specialists, managers and support staff, who are passionate about the development of the sustainable, efficient and equitable energy of tomorrow.

We strive to maintain working conditions that are of the highest standards, in that we prioritise individual needs and development, safety and wellbeing in the workplace, adequate earnings and prospects, as well as respecting work-life balance. At the same time, we foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, because we know teams are more than the sum of their parts.

Our facilities in Barcelona and Tarragona are both ideally located by the seafront, and a short commute from their respective city centres. With staff from 20 different nationalities, our facilities are a vibrant and dynamic place to work.

Talent attraction

We value talent, regardless of gender,  nationality, religious and political beliefs, sexual orientation, or cultural heritage, and appreciate the different perspectives and approaches that diverse teams bring to research and technology transfer.   We are determined to employ excellent professionals, both from home and abroad. As a result, our recruitment process is open, transparent and merit-based, and job openings are published both in local, European and international media.

Our institute fosters a diverse, inclusive and equal-opportunity environment. We adhere to the guidelines set out by AGAUR’s Node of support to the Mobility of researchers, the European Commission’s ‘European Charter for Researchers’ and the ‘Code of Conduct for the recruitment of researchers’, as well as having been awarded with the Commission’s accreditation “Human Resources Excellence in Research”.

Working conditions

Joining IREC means entering a welcoming, highly qualified community. We accompany and actively assist new researchers and staff through legal procedures involved in coming to Spain to work or as a student. If you are considering applying to an IREC position from abroad, please contact us (link to form HR) and we can advise you as to your next steps to ensure a smooth transition to working life in Spain.

Demonstrating our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in working conditions, we are constantly implementing actions for a positive work-life balance, while providing our employees with different options to organize the annual holiday period and labor calendar.

IREC has a Gender Equality Opportunity Plan in place, which was formally approved by our Board of Trustees in July 2019. Our standards go beyond those established by the general regulations and have already benefited many women, who were able to negotiate specific agreements that reflected their personal circumstances.

Some of the actions included in this plan are:

  • Prevention and Response Protocol and Training against Harassment at work.
  • Training for all personnel in Gender Equality.
  • A Non-Sexist Language Protocol.
  • Flexible and reduced  working hours policy for the care of children below 12 years of age.
  • In personnel selections and promotions, which are based on merit, periods of leave, absence and reduction, are not taken into account for evaluation purposes.
