IREC took part in the European Researchers’ Night 2025 in Barcelona

The Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) once again took part in the European Researchers’ Night, which was held on Friday 26 September 2025 at various locations across Catalonia and Europe. In Barcelona, the event took place at CosmoCaixa, a leading venue for scientific outreach and public engagement.

The European Researchers’ Night aims to bring research and innovation closer to society, fostering direct dialogue between researchers and audiences of all ages through engaging and participatory activities.

IREC’s activities in Barcelona

IREC researchers took part in different activities, sharing their expertise and knowledge in the field of energy:

  • Scientific speed dating with Juan Carlos González Rosillo (Nanoionics and Fuel Cells Dept.) engaged with participants in short and dynamic encounters to explain his research and answer questions first-hand.
  • Outreach workshop with Thibault Péan and Marina Calcagnotto (REACT Dept.) delivered the workshop “The invisible energy of your home”, a hands-on activity to discover how energy is part of our daily lives and how we can make more sustainable use of it.
  • Conversations with international researchers with Marlene Anzengruber (Nanoionics and Fuel Cells Dept.) and Ali Agga (Energy Systems Analytics Dept.) joined the activity “Conversations with foreigners”, sharing their experience as international researchers in Catalonia.

With these contributions, IREC reaffirmed its commitment to scientific outreach and to building a society that is better informed and more engaged in the energy transition.
