IREC celebrates “THE Day” highlighting success in european projects and innovation
Today, March 20, 2026, IREC held THE Day event, entitled “European Projects Coordinated by IREC: Sharing Knowledge, Experience and Success” at Parc Tecnològic Barcelona Activa in the framework of the nationally funded project TransHEner3.0. The event has showcased the institutional achievements in securing European funding and the impact of its projects on energy research and innovation.
The event was chaired by Marta Fonrodona, KTT Director, and Josep Maria Herrera, Head of Project Management. The session followed with Albert Tarancón delivering a talk titled “Coordination of European Projects: A Success Case”, highlighting one of the coordinated projects, HyP3D, that was recently received the Best Innovation Award by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, emphasizing IREC’s leadership in clean hydrogen innovation.
During the day, two round tables took place, focusing on sharing knowledge, experience, and practical tips with researchers who have recent experience in coordinating EU projects at IREC, including Jose Luis Dominguez, Maxim Guc, Marc Torrell, Josh Eichmann, Jordi Jacas, Lluis Trilla, Federico Baiutti, and Levon Gevorkov. They all discussed about broader lessons and collaboration experiences to learn from. A presentation from key personnel that provides support for project coordination also gave insights into the resources available to researchers from KTT, project management and structure.
Throughout the event, IREC highlighted that nearly one-third of its European projects are coordinated by the institute and celebrated having recently signed its 112th Grant Agreement, marking a strong record in European collaborations.
Today’s celebration recognized these achievements while highlighting the importance of sharing accumulated knowledge and experience with other researchers, creating space for team building among colleagues. Participants had the opportunity to learn firsthand about IREC-coordinated projects and their impact on the future of sustainable energy.
