The FURTHER-Wind project starts this month

IREC is pleased to host Chen Liu as a postdoctoral researcher through a Beatriu de Pinós (BP2024) fellowship. Dr. Liu will join the Power Systems Department at IREC under the supervision of José Luis Domínguez, where he will develop his professional career in the field of offshore wind power systems, while also benefiting from advanced training in transversal skills.

The Beatriu de Pinós programme focuses on attracting postdoctoral research talent and provides individual funding support for the recruitment and incorporation of postdoctoral researchers into the Catalan system of science and technology.

As large-scale offshore wind projects worldwide progress, there is a growing need to address the challenges associated with integrating this renewable energy into the electricity grid, particularly in terms of dynamic performance and operational control of the power system. The FURTHER-Wind project aims to enhance transparency in the integration and operation of offshore wind farms within the power grid by leveraging digital twin technology.

The FURTHER-Wind project, which started in February 2026, stands for “FPGA-Accelerated Ultra-Fast Real-Time Hybrid Digital Twin for Enhanced Transparency in Offshore Wind Power Systems”, and will last for 3 years.

As part of the project, Dr. Liu will undertake secondments and collaborations with Typhoon HIL, Cardiff University, and Université de Technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM, France). These collaborations will provide training in state-of-the-art digital twin technologies and contribute to strengthening European research collaborations.
